Global Monthly Economic Update/Fiscal Policy Revisited

Amid doubts about over-reliance on monetary policy to sustain economic growth, central bankers are increasingly joining the chorus for supportive fiscal policies. With both US presidential candidates leaning this way, and scepticism about the limits of interest rate cutting and quantitative easing in Europe and Japan, the odds are rising that fiscal policy will play a more active role. Any disappointments on growth would undoubtedly accelerate such a shift. China, having already been more activist applying fiscal stimulus to meet its growth goals, is now more focused on structural reform.
